World Eating Disorders Action Day – June 2nd, 2025
Each year on June 2nd, World Eating Disorders Action Day brings people together across the globe to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and advocate for access to evidence-based treatment for all individuals affected by eating disorders.
This year’s theme, “Breaking Stigma. Building Hope,” is a powerful reminder that eating disorders are serious, complex mental health conditions—not choices. They affect people of all genders, ages, body sizes, socioeconomic backgrounds, and cultures.
Why Awareness Matters
Eating disorders—including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, ARFID, and OSFED—are often misunderstood, minimized, or overlooked. But the reality is stark:
- Eating disorders have one of the highest mortality rates of any mental illness.
- They are not always visible—people do not need to look a certain way to be suffering.
- Early intervention can be life-changing and life-saving.
Unfortunately, stigma, shame, and misinformation can delay or prevent people from seeking help. That’s why raising awareness and sharing accurate information is so important.
Building a Compassionate and Informed Community
At Psychology Consultants, we are committed to fostering a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space for individuals experiencing eating disorders or disordered eating. Our clinicians understand the courage it takes to reach out for help, and we are here to walk alongside our clients on their path to recovery.
We also recognise the vital role families, carers, and community members play in supporting recovery—and we encourage open, compassionate conversations that replace stigma with understanding.
How You Can Take Action
- Educate yourself and others: Share credible resources and challenge myths about eating disorders.
- Listen without judgment: If someone opens up to you, offer support, not advice or criticism.
- Support early intervention: Encourage help-seeking and connect people with trained professionals.
- Advocate for systemic change: Push for accessible treatment, research funding, and inclusive policies.
You Are Not Alone
Whether you’re personally affected, supporting a loved one, or working in the health sector, World Eating Disorders Action Day is a time to come together. Recovery is possible, and by standing united, we can create a world where no one feels invisible or ashamed because of an eating disorder.
