Liz Bamford commenced her career in corporate banking with a major Australian bank. Liz left the banking sector to complete studies in psychology and worked in the retail and hospitality industries, lectured in vocational education, conducted psychological research and consulted in organisational psychology. As a consultant with the School of Psychology at the University of Queensland, Liz worked with a range of organisations, assisting them with work and career issues. After completing Honours in Psychology, Liz set up her own practice in Morningside, commencing in 2002.
Liz provides 4 types of counselling services:
1. Career counselling
Liz has assisted many individuals change careers, re-enter the workforce, set up their own business, balance the roles of worker and parent and choose courses of study. In addition to personal client consultations, Liz has experience in career transition and outplacement services, which has included exit interviews, career transition management and presenting job search and career management workshops. Liz has also been a guest speaker on a Career Development segment, with ABC radio.
2. Counselling to manage common life issues such as depression, anger, anxiety or stress
The type of clinical work Liz does involves assessment and treatment of depression and anxiety disorders, as well as grief and loss issues, and she has a particular interest in work-related issues including work conflict and work-related stress.
3. Christian counselling
Psychologists who practice Christian counselling, and who are also Christian can be difficult to find. Liz is actively involved in coaching and equipping in life skills as well as participating in the leadership within her own fellowship on an on-going basis. Liz also develops and implements Christian-based workshops for adults, running training events that cater for groups of various sizes.
4. Aged care counselling – for both the aged and their carers
As a keen member of the APS Psychology and Ageing Interest Group, Liz has more recently directed her private practice towards assisting the elderly and their families, who are navigating their way through the sometimes confusing and complicated system of aged care services. Liz is also creating and implementing a Life Story Program, based on reminiscence therapy, for residents in residential aged care facilities.
